I have a career that makes no sense. I am a recovering stand up (I failed very fast), community worker, McKinsey consultant, youth worker and international development worker. I co-founded a number of charities including the National Citizen Service and I was the lead policy adviser to the UK’s Education Secretary.
I am passionate about combating the fractures and divides that are messing up our societies and write about why we are divided and what we need to do to fix it.
For my ‘day job’ I am privileged to lead the brilliant Youth Endowment Fund. The Youth Endowment Fund is a charity with a £200m endowment that is here to serve the most vulnerable children in the UK. We fund trials to work out how to best to reduce violence and are building a movement to put what we learn into practice.
I am in denial about not being a Londoner any more. My much-nicer-than-me wife and I live just outside the capital outnumbered by small humans and small pets.
I aspire to exercise more regularly, play the guitar half decently, and laugh at myself every day.
I have ginger hair. But I am not related to the other ginger haired people you know (unless you know my sister).
Things I do
Leading
I lead the Youth Endowment Fund, which is a UK charity with a £200m endowment. We fund trials to work out how to best to reduce violence and are building a movement to put what we learn into practice.
Writing
I write about the divisions between us and how we build a more united society. My first book ‘Fractured’ is available to buy. (It’s really good, honest).
Founding
I have a track record of co-founding social enterprises. These include the National Citizen Service (www.wearencs.com), HeadStart (https://www.head-start.org.uk/) and was honoured to be in the vicinity when More in Common was born (https://www.moreincommon.com/).
